Pa'auilo Mauka Kalopa Community Association
October 2007 Newsletter

President's Message, October 2007

We have arrived a year after the horrible earthquake, feeling comfortable in our homes and going about our business without a thought that this could happen again. Our association has been busy working on an emergency plan so that we will be able to help each other. Mary Souza has the second draft done and it will be presented to the Civil Defense for their input and approval. We do not have to worry about a tsunami but we do have to be concerned about a hurricane, wind and rain storms. We have so many large trees that could cut us off from electricity, water, communication and travel. We need help to enforce this plan and ask if any one would like to be a part of this effort. At this time I would like to invite all of you who do not belong to this organization to come forth and be an active member. We need your input and ideas to keep our community safe and clean. The programs we work on and those who have worked before us have done it for the whole community. Our organization helped to bring water, electricity and paved roads and have worked on the By Pass. This is their legacy to us and we thank them for their efforts and dedication.

Hamakua Alive!
We will join the chefs, artists and growers in Hamakua and the Pa`auilo School for a day on the grounds of the Pa`auilo School on October 27th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Pa`auilo School will also celebrate their Blue and White annual community day in the park. Our organization will work with a chef and a Hamakua purveyor who will be a part of our booth--cooking and preparing delicacies which we will offer the visitor for a small fee. There will be a lot of tasting and fun going on at the park. There will be a contest for pies, cakes, jams and jellies and $100 dollars will go to those 1st first place winners. We will have our car decal logo for sale for those who live within our boundaries as well as our emergency plan to look over, and applications for those who wish to be a member of PMKA. If any of you have some time on the 27th we could use you help in our booth. Please contact me if you are interested in helping out.

Reminder
Our road cleanup is still set for November 17, 2007. We would like to use the same road assignments as our last clean up. We will start at 8:00 a.m. and end at 10:00 am. If anyone wants to help us keep our roads trash free, please will call Jaime Reno at 776-9826.
