President's Message
The air has a chill and the sweaters are being pulled out of the drawers to keep us comfortable. This reminds me that the holiday season is on its way. Thanksgiving will bring family and friends together for a special dinner and a time to renew our commitment and loyalty to each other. I was shopping and found the Christmas decorations on the shelves and soon we all will be celebrating the birth of our savior.

Kalopa Park Sign Project
The Kalopa State Park Committee under the direction of Linda Gallano are doing such a wonderful job painting and installing the signs for all who visit the park. The park is such a beautiful place and if you have not been there, you should make an effort to do so. Thank you to all who work so diligently--great job. A complete report of the work of this committee will be available in our next newsletter.

Hamakua Alive!
Hamakua Alive! was a success and our association participated with two booths. Diana Nui and her helpers put together plant starters, seeds, and cuttings to help the enthusiastic gardener. There were so many seedlings and cuttings and folks really appreciated the plants that were offered for free after the exchange. This was really a good will effort offered by our community members. Thanks go out to Diana, Carl and Carla Pinhas, Rick and Terry Mortenson, Lynn Krieger and Mike Gibson. Diana--that was such a great idea.

We also served some hot Portuguese soup and rice and enjoyed every minute serving and helping at this event. Thanks go to those who helped prepare the soup: Joan Dempster, Diana Nui, Dianne Higgins, and Darlene Sottile. Jim Reddekopp--thank you for letting us use your kitchen at the Vanilla Company to prepare the soup. Thanks also to Duncan and Joan Dempster, Francis and Dianne Higgins, Peggy Luscomb, and Linda Gallano who helped set up, take down and staff our booth. Cupcakes and brownies were donated by Myrna Kobayashi, and Tia Luscomb. Our soup won First Place in the soup contest! (Special note added by editor: Our soup had the magic touch of Dolores Ramos who oversaw the preparation and addition of winning ingredients. Dolores also worked tirelessly to make this happen for our association. Special thanks to Dolores!)

We also had information for those who live within our boundaries become familiar with our safety and neighbor programs. We have a website with information about the association, a form to join and an emergency survey for those who live in our boundaries at www.pmkca.org.

Thank you to all who helped and because you gave of your time and energy we were able to accomplish this task.

By-Pass Road
It makes me sad to have to report that we are not close to having the by-pass road our past presidents worked so hard to see become a reality. The County is working with the new owners and we pray that they see the importance of another way out of the mountain for all of us.

Cars Racing and Skidding
Our County and State roads are there for all of us to get from one place to another in safety. It has been brought to my attention that there are those who are abusing this privilege by racing and skidding in the Kalopa area. This act is not only unsafe to those who are on the road at the same time but to you who are driving without regard for yourself and others. If anyone is a witness to such behavior please report it by calling 911. You may be saving the life of a loved one and maybe your own life.

Survey of Interests
In my last message I told you about our survey of interests and the group that is interested in knowing about the area we live in. Well that group will get together when the Kalopa Park project is completed. The garden group has grown and they are planning to get together soon. Those who have signed up will be informed. This is such a neat opportunity to learn and share knowledge.

Vote!
I hope all who are eligible to vote take advantage of this privilege.

May all of you enjoy the Holiday Season.
