President's Message, November 2007

Road Clean Up, Pot Holes, Graffiti and Stop Signs
It's time to help to keep our roads clean from bottles, cans and garbage. Our association will be picking up the rubbish along our roads on Saturday, November 17, 2007 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. If you have not been asked to help, please contact Jaime Reno at 775-9826 or Dolores Ramos at 776-1666 and we will be happy to get you on board. We plan to have a sit down session to evaluate our efforts and just talk story at the Vanilla Company when we are done. All of those who worked on our roads are invited to have a snack. I realize that some of the grass on the side of the roads is long and I have spoken with Mr. Asato and asked if the cutting machines will be able to cut the grass before the 17th---he said he will try.

It was a sad day when I saw graffiti on the bridge. It is the first bridge on the Hilo side of Pa`auilo Mauka Road. Thank you to the person who wiped it out. This is one thing that we could be aware of in our neighborhood watch. Now talking about the neighborhood watch--our association has decals for purchase so that our vehicles will be recognized as a member of our community. They sell at 1 for $3.00 and 2 for $5.00. The decal has a nice ohia blossom design. If you would like to purchase decals, just go to our website at www.pmkca.org where you can click on Membership Form to join our association and order decals. The website now has our Constitution and By-Laws that guide our association.

I realize that many of our roads are not like the city roads and some have pot holes and tree roots and they are narrow. I spoke with the road department about some of your concerns and they have patched some holes and we will not see any two lanes in the near future. They are aware of our bridges and plans to fortify them in the future.

It has been brought to my attention that some of our community people are running the stop signs at the Kalaniai and Kaapahu, and the Pohakea and Hauola intersections. I spoke with the person from the County of Hawaii Road Department who studies these problems and he assured me that he will have a report soon. It would be nice if all of us would pay attention to these stop signs

Hamakua Alive! Saturday, October 27, 2007
What a nice affair this was. The weather was pleasant and all those who participated in the Pa`auilo School Blue and White Affair and the Hamakua Alive! had a successful day. Our Association had a booth and we sold fudge and cookies baked by a baker from the Four Seasons. They tasted good. We had our emergency plan and map to share with those who lived within our boundaries. Thanks to Linda Gallano, Diana Nui, Mary Souza and Dianne Higgins for taking the time to be a part of this affair. Their help is truly appreciated. I too was there and we all enjoyed the day.

Annual Meeting and a New Board Member
Our annual meeting will be held in January 2008 and I will announce our guest speaker in our December newsletter. We have invited Peggy Luscomb to join us as a board member and are happy to have her on board.

Up Dates
The Sand Gulch and the By Pass are still on going and should be started in the early part of 2008.

May you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day with your family and friends.
