C-17s
Our community has been spared the low flying C-17 thanks to all who gave testimony on the subject. Our association members spoke out at the meeting in Honoka`a as well as the hearing held in Kona. Here is a partial list of those who took action: Addie Bowman, David and Pam Caccia, Joe Clarkson, Tom and Kay Doe, Linda Gallano, Bill Hayes, Dianne Higgins, Jo Kim and Diana Nui. I thank all of you. Many folks from Ahualoa, Waimea and Kona also took action.
Kalopa Park Signs
Linda Gallano and her committee, Eddie Gallano, David DeEsch, Michael Gibson, Diana Nui, and Francis Higgins with Mr. Tomich are working on the signs at the Kalopa State Park. They are working on signs that will help visitors identify the trees in the park. Linda is also working on the garden of native plants that our association and students planted. They learn how to care for the plants and their uses. Great job Linda. If anyone is interested in helping please call Linda at 775-7494.
Emergency Plan
We are working on an emergency plan for our community and could use some of your input. We need to be aware of what happens around us and know where the resources that will help us. We could use a volunteer or two, having trained neighbors is important. You could call me at 776-1666 or Mary Souza at 776-1654.
Thank You
I would like to thank our executive board and committee chairmen for taking on my responsibilities while I was unable to be here. Your support has not gone unnoticed.
Board Meeting
Our next board meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the Vanilla Company at 7:00 pm. You are welcomed and if you would like some time, please call me at 776-1666 so I can add you to our agenda.

Crime Wave Alert
I attended the Honoka`a Business Association meeting at Tex Drive In on April 28, 2008, to address the issue of increased criminal behavior in Honoka`a. Police Captain Randy Apelli spoke about police response to increased vandalism, criminal property damage and drinking and loitering in Honoka`a. Various community members addressed their concerns about the number of young people with aggressive behavior in Honoka`a. Captain Apelli mentioned that there had been increased crime in Honoka`a, including a rash of automobile break ins in Pa`auilo Mauka.
I called today, April 29, 2008, to get a clarification. I spoke with Officer Shane Muramaru, and he informed me that there were five automobile break ins in Kalopa and one on Pa`auilo Mauka Road in February 2008. The police seem to feel that they have caught the offender as the break ins have stopped.
