THE BYPASS
On the 25th of April 2007 I received an e-mail message from Mr. Bruce Mc Clure, the director of public works, informing me that the connection of the bypass road to the Old Government Road needs to be redesigned. The County plans to have the redesign complete and out for bid by the first quarter of 2008. This news will be testing all of our patience. I know we all want it to be done as soon as possible but it will take much longer to be completed. May we continue to be supportive of our County, but I assure you that I will keep on top of this project.

ROAD CLEANUP
The response to help with the community road cleanup was overwhelming. It was a nice experience to know that most of you care for the area in which we raise our families, entertain our friends and tend our gardens. It was a nice day and all who participated picked up a large load of trash. We found the normal paper cups papers and many empty bottles of beer and soda cans. We could help by keeping our trash in our cars till we get to a rubbish container to dispose of it. Thank you to all who took the time to clean up our roads. After the cleanup was done, most of us met at the Vanilla Company for refreshments and each gave a report of their experiences on the roads they were assigned to work on. Thank you to Annett Freitas for the delicious rolls and to Myrna Kobayashi for the homemade cornbread. Everyone enjoyed the nourishment and fellowship. Someone told me that it is the job of the County workers to clean our roads. I know that, but if all of us did not throw our rubbish out of our car windows no one would have to pick up other people's trash. The County could spend their time on other important tasks. It really is a shame to witness all of the rubbish that is on the side of our roads. We plan to do this twice a year and maybe we will find less trash on the roads to pick up and one day no one will have to do this chore. We could all make this our goal by keeping our rubbish in our cars till we get home.

BEHIND THE SCENES
I would like to introduce the executive board of our association who work behind the scenes to keep our community a pleasant and safe place to live, a place we call home. Jim Reddekopp is the vice present of our association. He is the owner of the Vanilla Company and a Vanilla Farm. Jim and his family moved to Paauilo Mauka from Honolulu. He is married to Tracy and has five children. Jim has been working on our logo which is almost ready to be printed. We are privileged to meet at his facility for our executive and special meetings. He is always willing to be responsible for setting up refreshments for our gatherings. Randy Sutton is our Secretary and is a Dentist and keeps our minutes and important information. Dianne Higgins is the Treasurer and she keeps our finances in order. If anyone would like to join the association you may call Dianne for an application at 775-7311. She also serves as our membership chairman. She works hard to keep our books in order. Dianne retired from the University of Hilo and lives in Kaapahu with her husband Francis. She has three children. Dianne also serves as my right hand. Thank you to all of you for all you do. I will introduce the committee chairmen in my next news letter.

Aloha
