Pa'auilo Mauka Kalopa Community Association January/February 2009 Newsletter
President`s Message
Hau' Oli Makahiki Hou--the language of our Islands, which means Happy New Year. As we welcome the year 2009 I wish only the best to all. We worked on a few projects in the past such as the status of the Sand Gulch, the By Pass Road, and an Emergency Plan for our Community, Neighborhood Watch, Hamakua Alive! and keeping our roads clean.
The Sand Gulch will not be closed as long as it is safe even when the By Pass Road is completed. As for the By Pass Road, the County should break ground in fall 2009--about 3 months after the bids go out in July. Special thanks to all the past presidents and their board members who never gave up the fight. On Thursday the 8th of January 2009 Our Councilman Dominic Yagong held a meeting at the Pa`auilo School Cafeteria with members from the Planning Department who gave us the good news. Thank you to all who worked so hard to have it become a reality. Dominic said he will throw a little party once the first shovel goes into the ground.
The emergency plan has a little more work to be done and Mary Souza and Steve Vujnovich will see that it is done. Hamakua Alive! gave us an opportunity to work with others from our community and the sharing of plants was a neat idea of Diana Nui. Keeping the shoulders of our roads without rubbish is an ongoing project. If we all kept our rubbish in our cars and disposed of it when we got home we would not have to have road cleanups. This could be one of our resolutions for the year. We have road captains for some of our roads and we could use a few more to be the eyes and ears of our neighborhood. Please get in touch with your board members if you would like to help.
Reminder--we will hold our annual meeting on Tuesday, January 27 at 7:00 p.m. at the Pa`auilo School. We will have an election of officers and Dominic Yagong will be there to give us an update on what's happening in our community. We invite you all to attend, meet your neighbors and learn what's new.
I believe if we want our community to be clean and safe we need to be a part of the solution by being involved. We need to be aware of the growth that impacts our roads and open space that affect our rural lifestyle. May I suggest that all who live within our boundaries from Kalopa, Kaapahu and Pa`auilo Mauka to log on to our website at http://pmkca.org and fill in an application to become a voice in our community.
Our board meets every other month beginning with January, March, May, etc. at the Vanilla Company at 7:00 pm on the second Tuesday and anyone is invited to participate if they wish to be part of the agenda.
May all of you enjoy the peace and beauty around us and find the time for your families.
Much Aloha.
