Pa'auilo Mauka Kalopa Community Association January 2008 Newsletter
President's Message
At this time of traditional beginnings I want to pay tribute to all who have gone before me laying the foundation of our community association. They envisioned the need to have those who live within the boundaries of our association working together to keep our rural environment safe and aware of the growth that affects us. We all said goodbye to year 2007 and welcomed the New Year with much anticipation to be a better person.
I want to thank all who serve on the board and all who helped when asked. To Jim Reddekopp who provided us a meeting place and filled in whenever I was not available. To Randy Sutton for taking the minutes when he was able and to Dianne Higgins who not only managed our money and the membership chores also helped Randy when he was unable to be at our meeting... Dianne is my right hand person and I really appreciate her help. Rick Berman and Bob Frost handled the noisy coqui frogs; they also got some help from Betsy Cole--good job. Jamie Reno helped with the road concerns and Gene Ramos who kept in touch with the water department. Jim Millar our very own fireman has worked hard this year with some of the fires along the Hamakua coast and attended training sessions to help him keep current with all of the new information that helps to keep us safe. Mary Souza our emergency chairman has worked hard to put a plan together should there be a disaster. For those who have not filled in an emergency form you may find it on our web site at http://www.pmkca.org/ or call any board member. To all of the road representatives--thank you for your support. To John Lindelow and Michelle Hollander for getting us set up on the web and email.
2007 Projects
- Sand Gulch was top priority and we worked with the County to see that it was made safe for our people. We were all unable to see the completion of the Sand Gulch. They completed the 1st phase and are now working on awarding the 2nd phase to a contractor. The 3rd phase will be worked on when the 2nd phase is completed.
- The By Pass is still being massaged and should be started sometime in April.
- Our very own web page is up and running and we are able to get in touch with each other via our e-mail.
- Our Emergency Plan has a few kinks, but it is going to work. We still need volunteers.
Rubbish Pick Up
Our last scheduled day was canceled because the grass was not cut along the roads and it was determined at our board meeting that it was unsafe to have our members on the roads. Our next pick up is now scheduled for January 26, 2008 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am, the last Saturday in January. We would like to have you work on the road with the people we reassigned you in November. You may call me at 776-1666 and Jaime at 776-9826 if you wish to help.
Annual Meeting Tuesday January 29, 2008
Our meeting will be held at the Pa`auilo School Cafeteria at 7:00 pm. We will have a guest speaker from the Department of Water Supply and the election of officers. If anyone would like to serve, please call Linda Hayes Nomination Chairman at 775-9865.
May the New Year find you and your family in good health and may 2008 bring you joy and happiness. Let us work together to accomplish the kind of community we all would like to live in.

Dolores S. Ramos
President, PMKCA
Thank you to our President
I'm sure that all the board members, committee members, and community members would like to join me in thanking Dolores for the wonderful job she has done as our leader for the past two years. Dolores has a gentle way of bringing people together, acknowledging them, and encouraging teamwork.
Under her leadership, our association has played an active role in our community and she had been able to offer a perspective based on wisdom and caring. Let's hope that she will continue to be active and help us be a great community.
Mahalo Dolores!
