A New Year's Message
I am so grateful to wake up each morning to see the sun shining or the rain watering the pastures and yards. To be in a land that is free and surrounded by those we love and care for. I have lived on the mountain for more than fifty years and have seen the growth of the surroundings, mostly good. I appreciate all who help to make our lives comfortable and safe. To all who serve on the board, the road representatives and our phone tree person. Without your dedication and diligence we could not have accomplished our goal to see that our community is kept safe and clean.

I would really like to see us work on being kind to each other by simply driving slower, stopping at pull outs to let the other car pass. We do not have to save a minute of our time to be rude to others. We could be a little more conscious about throwing our rubbish out of our car for someone else to pick up. And speaking of rubbish, we need some help to pick the rubbish that is thrown out onto the side of the roads. Our next clean up day will be held in April. You may call Jaime Reno at 776-9826 to volunteer.

Sand Gulch
The Sand Gulch situation has been a burden on many of our members and I feel for all of you. But look what happened in the Philippines where so many died and homes and villages buried never to be recovered. I consider our situation a blessing that we did not experience such a horrific tragedy. Our board is working with the County officials and the land owners of the by pass-road so that we could have a safe way out of the mountain.

The Sand Gulch will be ready to use by the middle of January and the details for the by-pass road are looking good.

DSL Service
I have been informed by Hawaiian Telephone that the DSL service should be available to folks by the end of December 2006. If you are one of the people waiting, now is the time to apply for this service.

Annual Meeting
Our next annual meeting will be held on January 16, 2007 at the Paauilo School Cafeteria at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Bruce McClure will bring us up-to-date on the by- pass road. Dominic Yagong will up date us on the eucalyptus trees. I have asked the Civil Defense to send a representative to help us with an emergency plan for our area. Mary Souza has volunteered to chair this committee. If anyone wishes to serve on this committee please let me know. It would well worth your time to get informed.

We will also be electing officers for the next year. The following officers have agreed to serve one more term: President: Dolores Ramos; Vice President: Jim Reddekopp; Treasurer: Dianne Higgins. The position of Secretary will be up for grabs. If you would like to nominate someone to run for office, please contact Linda Hayes of the Nomination Committee at 775-9865.

This year has come to an end and we can look back and see what we have accomplished individually and as a community. We should ask ourselves "Have I done any good this year?" Maybe it is time to set new goals for ourselves.

May 2007 bring love and peace to all of you. Happy New Year.

See you at our next meeting January 16, 2007.

Aloha
