Pa'auilo Mauka Kalopa Community Association February 2008 Newsletter
President's Message
President's Message
February 2008
Our association held the semiannual meeting on January 29, 2008 at the Pa`auilo School Cafeteria. It was well attended. We heard from Quirino Antonio and Kanani Aton from the Department of Water Supply. Mr. Antonio shared a handout of the local water system and stated that all new subdivisions will have to deal with the Planning Department for water standards that meet the County standards. Many questions were raised and answered by Mr. Antonio or Kanani.
John Lindelow gave a report on the Landowner Assistance Workshop he attended and shared info on a cost-sharing process--a project many will be interested in to help private land owners steward their land by planting trees. If you are interested in learning more about the options, you can contact John via email at cybernet@lava.net. Be on the lookout for more information on our website at www.pmkca.org.
A donation was offered by Lloyd and Julie Soehren to fix the broken signs in the Kalopa State Park that identify the native plants. An ad hoc committee was set up to facilitate the replacement of broken or missing signs. Linda Gallano will chair the committee and anyone interested in working on this project was invited to contact Linda at 775-7494. Quentin Tomich, who has been a tireless volunteer at the park over several decades, gave an overview of the work to be done.
The committee chairmen gave their reports and elections of officers were held. There were no additional nominations from the floor so the names that the nomination committee presented were accepted.
I would like to thank all who have supported me in the past, and now I ask for another year. I consented to serve another year and Jim Reddekopp will serve as Vice President.
Dianna Nui as Secretary, Peggy Luscomb as Treasurer with the duties of the membership. Dianne Higgins will do our newsletter. John Lindelow has consented to do our web and our other committee chairmen will remain the same. We all will do our best to serve our community.
We set another rubbish pick up and it rained again. Some of you went out on that day and I thank you. Those of you that were on the road in the rain stopped by the Vanilla Company for some hot coffee or cocoa and a treat--it was nice. For those that did not get out that day, we ask that you make a special effort to get together with your partners and do your assigned roads. If you have any questions, call Jamie Reno at 776-9826.
Our councilman Dominic Yagong was on hand to give us updates on several issues such as the status of the by-pass road (see preliminary map on our website); the road with no name near the 41 mile marker and the Belt Highway; status of the eucalyptus trees; affordable housing, and roads in limbo. Dominic answered many questions from the audience and emphasized working partnerships between our community and the various agencies we deal with, both public and private.
Dwight Takemine was not able to attend our meeting because of legislative duties, however, Niyati Brown from our community offered to take questions for him after the meeting.
I encourage all who have not filled in your emergency survey form to make it a priority to do so. It would be so much better to be prepared and nothing happens that to have a storm hit and you do not know where to turn. The form is on our website at www.pmkca.org. You can print it out and mail it to the address on the form.
May the year 2008 be good to all of you, and may we work together to accomplish what we cannot do alone.
Dolores S. Ramos President, PMKCA
Thank you to our President
I'm sure that all the board members, committee members, and community members would like to join me in thanking Dolores for the wonderful job she has done as our leader for the past two years. Dolores has a gentle way of bringing people together, acknowledging them, and encouraging teamwork.
Under her leadership, our association has played an active role in our community and she had been able to offer a perspective based on wisdom and caring. Let's hope that she will continue to be active and help us be a great community.
Mahalo Dolores!
