Pa'auilo Mauka Kalopa Community Association February 2007 Newsletter
President's Message
Thank you to all who took the time to attend our Annual meeting held at the Pa`auilo Elementary School on January 16, 2007. The committee chairmen gave their reports and brought us up to date on their responsibilities. Rick Berman told us that coqui equipment is available to our community. Gene Ramos informed the group that the Water Department is not issuing any water meters, our fire fighter volunteers have been busy and our chief Jim Millar has been recertified. Jaime Reno our road chairman is still asking for help with our road cleanup in April. Dianne Higgins our membership chairman is busy renewing and collecting our dues for the year 2007. A Special Mahalo to our hard working chairmen who make a difference in our community.
It was election time again and the same officers who served in 2006 were elected to serve another term. President Dolores Ramos, Vice President Jim Reddekopp, Secretary Randy Sutton and Treasurer Dianne Higgins. Thank you for your confidence and we will do our best to serve all of you.
Mr. Bruce McClure and his staff presented the plan to complete the Sand Gulch and the future bypass. They left the proposed plan [map] with me and anyone wishing to view it may call me to make an appointment to see it. Eddie Cordeiro was kind enough to get up to thank Mr. McClure and his staff for all the hard work they did to reopen the Sand Gulch Road and asked "Where are all the others who were concerned?" Congratulations Eddie--that was a real nice gesture.
We need to commend Oye Contractor and Gary DeRego who completed the job without a written contract because they felt for those who had to make a longer trip with the gulch closed. Great Job! The next phase will involve removing more trees. No date has been set for this project yet.
Troy Kindred from the Civil Defense spoke to us and had a lot of advice on what we can do to be self sufficient in an emergency. Mary Souza is the chairman to help work on a plan to help our community with a general and personal plan. Anyone who is willing to serve on this committee please contact any of your board members
Councilman Yagong spoke to us about some of the projects he is working on such as Sand Gulch, the By Pass Road, harvesting of the trees and the Veneer Plant. There are also plans for 700 acres to be auctioned above Antone DeLuz Road. Another 1,040 acre property is planned for affordable housing. Also, the road just past the 41 mile marker (coming from Honoka`a) will be condemned by the County. The County and State will work together on this project so it will be safer. You may recall that since is was privately owned by KSBE, the community members used to take care of the road. Dominic is concerned about our community and we are fortunate to have him working for us.
I need to say that I am so proud of our volunteer fire fighters who serve relentlessly to help those in our community. Under the command of Jim Millar. Jim and his crew have put out many a fire and one special member in our community was so grateful she sent a thank you note with a check. When I mentioned it to Jim he said that this gift was a blessing because his group needed some special machetes to help them with brush fires. This proves that there are some grateful people in our community. THANK YOU.
May we all continue to work together by putting our talents and knowledge together to make our community one we can be proud to say we live where there are neighbors who care about our welfare and safety. Please join us by filling an application to become a paid member to receive all of the benefits our association offers. Our Success depends not only on what happens in the White House but what happens in our community.
Aloha
